The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) is a Disabled People’s Organisation and a national specific and population-based disability peak, championing the rights of people with disability and enabling them to participate fully in Australian life. Snapshot of this Role

As National Manager, you will take the lead on AFDO’s systemic advocacy and policy work. You will engage with ADFO’s member organisations to develop national advocacy positions which build awareness on matters and government policies that impact people living with disability. You will apply a human rights approach, collaborate with a range of stakeholders and undertake research to identify key issues to advise AFDO, its members, government and the disability sector more broadly.

You have a genuine commitment to social justice and want to see a world where people living with disability can participate fully in their communities of choice. You bring:

  • Highly developed policy, systemic advocacy and research skills within the disability sector and a strong understanding of human rights
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of disability policy
  • Good judgement in the provision of advice on advocacy and lobbying
  • The confidence and capability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate to build consensus on key issues
  • Well-developed written communication skills and confident presentation skills
  • A self-managed approach to your work
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications

This position is only available for those who identify as a person with disability as allowed under 'special measures' of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) or other relevant state legislation.

Other role requirements include suitable remote working facilities (eg, home office), National Police Criminal Record Check and periodic travel.

This is a part-time role (30.4 hours per week subject to negotiation) with an offer of an initial 12-month contract and opportunity for renewal.
