The Independent Education Union (IEU) Victoria Tasmania is a union that represents over 20,000 members working in non-government education in both states. The union is seeking applications from a qualified Accountant to work in the Finance team. The role is based in the Melbourne office and is for an immediate start.

Reporting to the Finance Manager/Accountant, the ideal candidate will have a solid background in accounts receivable and payable or a similar finance role, with exceptional Excel and systems skills.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Managing and reconciling Accounts Receivable & Payable to the General ledger

• Bank Reconciliation
• Preparing accruals
• Reconciling membership fees between the bank statement and general ledger (revenue)
• Keeping a check and preparing of prepayment schedules
• Maintaining digital and physical financial records.
• Calculating, updating, reconciling and posting payroll to a computerised system
• Overall maintenance/check on the accounting package
• Excellent knowledge of Excel & working spreadsheets
• Deputising to the Finance Manager
• Assisting with the allocation of tasks and management of staff.

REQUIRED:

• An Accounting qualification
• A strong commitment to trade unionism and / or social justice
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Good communication skills
• Collaborative team approach

advantageous:

• Experience working in a Union or not-for-profit organisation
• Experience working with a subscription-based member database
• CPA or CA

The IEU Victoria Tasmania provides a collegial and supportive working environment with a comprehensive package of wages and conditions in accordance with the IEU Staff Agreement. Salary between $98,785 and $111,008 depending on experience and qualifications.
