About us

The Immigration Advice and Rights Centre (IARC), a non-profit Community Legal Centre, is looking for new members to join its Management Committee. These are voluntary positions.

Established in 1986, IARC delivers legal services to migrants experiencing vulnerability, refugees and people seeking asylum in NSW. IARC’s vision is for a fair, just and accessible Australian immigration system.

IARC is committed to inclusion and respect of diversity, and values individual strengths, perspectives and experiences.

About you

IARC is seeking to expand its management committee to support a strategy of organisational development and sustainability. Appointments to the committee will be informed by our Management Committee skills and diversity matrix.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • A commitment to diversity, equality and bringing about real and lasting change;
  • Critical and strategic thinking and effective decision-making;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A collaborative and positive attitude.

Previous experience on the board or management committee of a not-for-profit organisation is desirable.

You will also bring expertise and/or experience in one or some of the following areas:

  • Philanthropy and sponsorship;
  • Fundraising and donor management;
  • Public relations and marketing;
  • Government relations;
  • Digital publishing and/or legal innovation;
  • Corporate governance and risk management.

About the role

Board appointments are for an initial 3-year term with the option for reappointment for a further term.

Committee appointments are voluntary and Committee members are expected to commit the time to prepare for and attend 5 scheduled board meetings annually (a mix of in-person and virtual attendance).
