Regularly rated as Australia’s most trusted charity, Guide Dogs Australia (GDA) consists of state-based member organisations offering specialist services and iconic Guide Dogs to help people with low vision and blindness achieve their goals.

With limited government funding, they rely on national business partnerships and community support to deliver essential vision loss services. GDA’s role is to support member organisations across advocacy, brand governance, collaboration and national partnership management.

Impact You Will Have In This Role

The Head of Brand, Marketing & Communications reports to the Executive Director, GDA and will work closely with a large number of stakeholders across GDA and state member organisations.

You will be a vital part of GDA’s Executive Leadership team and will play a pivotal role in providing senior generalist marketing and communications support (strategic and tactical) to GDA, enhancing and unifying the brand’s national presence to positively impact the lives of people with vision loss.

Supported by the Partnerships Communications & Marketing Specialist (direct report), you will engage with numerous stakeholders across GDA, member organisations, and external suppliers to guide brand custodianship, grow and maintain GDA's positive image and reputation, lead specific campaigns, marketing, PR, and advocacy efforts and marketing and communications for Guide Dogs national partners.

Lead Responsibilities

GDA Brand Custodianship

  • Lead the completion, annual review, and updates of Brand Guidelines
  • Oversee Brand Governance, ensuring adherence to principles and supporting teams in guideline implementation
  • Develop and coordinate brand-compliant assets, communications, and marketing for GDA

Reputation & Awareness

  • Manage daily media monitoring and update members
  • Develop and lead reputation protection messaging for cross-state issues and GDA risks, supporting the Executive Director, Chair, Board, and CEO Group
  • Create and lead collaboration on aligned positions and common messaging

GDA Communications and Marketing Leadership

  • Approve all GDA team communications and marketing
  • Develop, review, and maintain GDA website content
  • Lead GDA marketing strategy development, campaigns, tactical tools, and content (newsletters, social media, video)
  • Oversee GDA PR, media, and social content development and approvals
  • Collaborate with member peers on the overall social media approach and execution across Guide Dogs organisations
  • Develop and maintain a calendar for external communications to maximise impact and avoid timing or message clashes

Project Management and Co-ordination

  • Project manage and coordinate national collaboration campaigns across members (e.g. International Guide Dog Day, White Cane Day)
  • Facilitate national content and asset creation; respond to needs and knowledge sharing across the Guide Dogs group and activate communications/marketing solutions
  • Develop templates for national asset sharing, including newsletters and other support materials

Partnership Support

  • Conceptualise and develop tactical national partnership marketing solutions
  • Create or approve partnership marketing campaigns, copywriting, assets, tools, and social media posts
  • Work with partners and their communities to support mission delivery, explore joint opportunities, and promote GDA as an accessibility leader

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering strategic and tactical brand, marketing and communications, ideally with experience in a federated for purpose or geographically dispersed organisation
  • Proven track record in digital marketing across website, social media communications and marketing
  • Demonstrated experience in national brand management and practical brand guideline governance
  • Proven track record in managing reputational issues with internal and external stakeholders, ideally in high awareness brand environments
  • Outcome and results focused, with commercial acumen – taking responsibility for achieving results, providing recommendations, overcoming challenges and value adding
  • Superior collaboration, influencing and interpersonal skills – able to implement solutions, build consensus on shared priorities where there may not be alignment and interact confidentially and professionally with a range of diverse internal/external stakeholders
  • Flexible, agile and adaptive, able to take initiative, think laterally and identify options
  • Experienced in marketing and communications performance metrics, able to provide reporting and campaign analysis
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and relevant design programs such as Photoshop, Canva and Adobe
  • Passionate about improving the lived experiences of people facing vision loss across Australia
