The Policy and Advocacy Manager is a new role created because of Inclusion Australia's increased focus on larger and more impactful projects.

This is a fully remote role, open to you wherever you live in Australia.

Purpose of this role

The Policy and Advocacy Manager role is about using your skills and experience to effectively influence public policy, build strategic relationships, and advocate for systemic change that enhances the lives of people with an intellectual disability. You will lead our policy and advocacy team inclusively and strategically to help us have the biggest impact we can.

What you will do

Influencing public policy:

  • You will research and develop collaborative, evidence-informed policy that supports the rights and needs of people with an intellectual disability.
  • You will analyse existing policy and its impacts on our community and provide feedback to government to identify areas for improvement – in inclusive and innovative ways.

Advocating – for, and with:

  • You will lead advocacy campaigns to influence lawmakers, stakeholders, and the public, including preparing position papers, submissions, and presentations to key decision-makers.

Building strong relationships:

  • You will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to promote and advance our policy objectives.

Managing a team:

  • You will contribute to our management team and oversee a team of people across Australia.
  • You will delegate work appropriately to make the most of people’s strengths, accommodate individual working requirements.

Reporting progress:

  • You will support Inclusion Australia’s impact measurement approaches.

Who we’re looking for

  • You have worked for three or more years in a similar role (maybe with a similar organisation)
  • You have experience in developing, researching and analysing policy, ideally with a national focus, using data/evidence to inform recommendations and decisions
  • You have experience in creating ‘person-centred’ policy that directly includes lived experience
  • You have experience successfully leading and motivating a team
  • You must have a police record check before starting the role, and hold current valid employment Working with Children Check at all times
  • It would be an advantage if you have a tertiary qualification in public policy, politics, law or a related field.
