IndianCare is a not-for-profit organisation addressing the welfare needs of Indian origin people in Victoria. Key programs include an information, support & referral service family violence programs.
This position is crucial to identify gaps and challenges faced by the new migrant families settling in Victoria. Community Development officer will organise regular community consultations and outreach activities in different catchment areas to assess their needs and build awareness on support and services available to the community, especially sports and recreation.
Responsibilities and accountabilities
Outreach and support service
- Advocacy and assistance to access a broad range of services to community
members
- Providing support to families who may be in crisis or presenting with more
complex needs
- Effectively manage client work, advocacy and community engagement across
different community settings
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with external agencies and
strategic partners
- Develop resources and other relevant material to build awareness among Indian
community
- Work effectively and collaboratively within the broader IndianCare Team
Selection Criteria Qualifications and skills
- Tertiary qualifications in social science, gender studies, community development or another area of relevance
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with vulnerable and high-risk families
- Ability to form strong collaborative working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including community and government agencies
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team
- Value time and have good time management skills
