Development Coordinator - Flexible location

We are recruiting for a Development Coordinator to manage our community development program in collaboration with a network of grassroots community partners across eight countries.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role as part of our passionate and dedicated team, reporting to the Executive Director and supporting a diverse network of volunteer Partnership Coordinators and overseas community partners. If you have a deep commitment to community-led development and gender equity, experience working collaboratively with marginalised communities and strong organisational and interpersonal skills, this may be the role for you.


As Development Coordinator, you will promote and work within indigo foundation’s Strategy and guiding principles – community ownership, sustainability, transparency and equity – to lead and coordinate our development program through a network of grassroots community partners and Australia-based Partnership Coordinators.

You will support our team of Partnership Coordinators to ensure that our development program is grounded in strong and respectful relationships with community partners and operates within indigo foundation’s guiding principles, strategy and policies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing advice and expertise to shape planning, policy and practices required for direction-setting and management of the development program
  • Maintaining oversight of community partnerships as they move through the project cycle and supporting Partnership Coordinators in their role
  • Leading and managing the design of tools and practical guidance relating to project planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning
  • Overseeing Commitment Agreements with partners, and reporting of activities, risks and finances
  • Working in a participatory manner with Partnership Coordinators and partners to identify training and resources that assist them in their role and mission
  • Acting as a conduit for cross-cutting insights and lessons learned across projects and within the organisation to contribute to organisational learning and share good practice
  • Contributing to the review and development of policies and procedures relating to the development program
  • Ensuring robust systems and tools to measure impact across the development program

This is an Australia-based part-time role (20 hours per week) with some international travel. You will be employed under SCHADS Award conditions at a Level 4 or 5, depending on skills and experience. We are committed to a flexible working environment and the spread of hours across the week can be negotiated with the Executive Director.

indigo foundation is a virtual organisation with staff and volunteers throughout Australia, with hubs in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. You will work from home and the role can be based anywhere in Australia, with a preference for the candidate being based in NSW, ACT or Victoria.

Critical values, skills and abilities

  • A minimum five years’ experience in international development, including working collaboratively with partner organisations on program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, risk assessment, budget management and reporting on outcomes
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in international or community development or a related field
  • Ability to identify, analyse and solve problems and obstacles arising in the process of managing partner relationships
  • Experience creating a supportive and productive team environment for staff or volunteers
  • Ability to work collaboratively, value diversity and listen and learn from others
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to social justice and to indigo foundations guiding principles – community ownership, sustainability, transparency and equity
  • Passionate about community-led development and working collaboratively to build the power and capacity of local grassroots organisations
  • Commitment to gender equity and securing the human rights of women and girls


  • Experience in programs, research or advocacy directed to gender equity
  • Experience in programs involving advocacy and/or movement-building models of change
  • Experience writing and reporting on grant proposals
  • Experience as a volunteer or in a volunteer-based organisation
