About Us

Since 1999, the Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne) (MIC) has supported people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds residing in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne to enhance their settlement and access to services and strengthen their participation within the community. The region covers the Local Government Areas of Boroondara, Whitehorse, Manningham, Maroondah, Knox, Yarra Ranges and Monash. We are a vibrant team of diverse, multi-cultural and passionate people drawn together to improve and enhance the migrant experience.

About the opportunity

The Executive Officer is responsible for guiding the organisation's strategic direction and ensuring the effective delivery of services. They will demonstrate a commitment to empowering migrants and refugees while fostering partnerships and advocating for the needs of these communities. Reporting to the Board of Directors, and working closely with staff, volunteers, government agencies, community organisations and other stakeholders, the EO will oversee all aspects of MIC's operations, including:

  • Strategic and operational leadership
  • Governance and reporting
  • Risk Management
  • Financial management
  • Human resources
  • Stakeholder Engagement and partner development
  • Program development, evaluation & reporting

Key requirements

  • Substantial leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, (preferably migrant services, community development, or human rights advocacy) with a track record of success in financial management and operational oversight.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and service development abilities that enable the measurement of data-driven outcomes to improve quality and responsiveness.
  • Highly effective interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus and forge strategic partnerships.
  • Experience in writing funding submissions and reporting to funding bodies, with a strong understanding of grant compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with and reporting to a Board of Directors, with a thorough understanding of governance principles and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the refugee and migrant experience, with a commitment to promoting social justice, human rights, and the empowerment of marginalised communities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field are desirable.
