The team at JCP Youth are a group of ordinary people who are dedicated to improving the lives of at risk and vulnerable young people through the delivery of high impact programs, largely the BEAST Program. Our aim is to inspire and empower at-risk and vulnerable young people to become extraordinary leaders who positively contribute to our communities.

We currently require District Team Leaders for the North, North-West and South of Tasmania, please refer to the information below and indicate the position you wish to be considered for when submitting your application.

District Team Leader

Position Objective of the District Team Leader: This position plays a pivotal front-line role in the mentoring of young people in community through the BEAST program, school programs, our volunteer ‘Street Teams’ program. The role is responsible for the case management of young people in the BEAST program along with co-ordination of Program Facilitators in the district area. The role undertakes a combination of youth facilitation and administration tasks to support JCP Youth and obtaining great outcomes for young people.

The following duties are designed to capture the inherent requirements of this District Team Leader role; however, other duties can be assigned in line with your classification, operational needs, and experience.

Major Duties

  • Case Manage BEAST program participants and other at risk or vulnerable young people in the district area as required, with the core focus on outcomes relating to (but not limited to): Education, Employable Skills, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Community Participation, Drugs & Alcohol, Youth Offending, Conflict Resolution Skillset.
  • Manage a small team of Program Facilitators in the allocated district area.
  • Contribute to the development and facilitation of development camps and programming.
  • Volunteer management, including management of the ‘Street Teams’ program in the District Area:
  • Facilitate a range of programs across for JCP Youth, including school seminars/outdoor recreation programs.
  • Team Collaboration: facilitators may work closely with other district facilitators, & the program co-ordinator to ensure cohesive programming and support.
  • Administration tasks include maintaining records, preparing reports, managing co-ordination of district-level activities, and ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Liaise by phone and email with a diverse range of stakeholders including young people, government departments, schools, parents/guardians, and other organisations.
  • Community Engagement: building relationships and partnerships within the community to support initiatives for young people. This could involve collaborating with schools, community centres, local businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Responsibility to proactively work and collaborate with the Operations Manager & Executive Director on the wider operations and programs for JCP Youth.
  • General cleaning of office areas, hired spaces, vehicles, and sorting of equipment such as sports equipment and materials used for school seminars.
  • Perform any other assigned duties at the classification level that are within the employee’s competence and training.

Other Considerations

  • Ensuring a safe working environment by complying with relevant Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, codes of practice and policies, procedures, and guidelines available.
  • Guidance and instruction will be provided on the implementation of modifications consistent with policy, regulatory and/or technological requirements and developments.
  • Both roles require flexibility in rostering; including weekends, evening shifts, public holidays and on call.

Skills and Experience

  • A current driver’s licence.
  • A satisfactory Working with Vulnerable Persons (WWVP) check.
  • A relevant qualification in youth work or similar discipline (desirable).
  • Relevant experience working with young people from an at-risk or vulnerable background.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
  • Strong leadership and coordination qualities
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to ask questions when clarity is needed.

Mandatory Training Dates: 5-week training commences upon employment – held in Launceston Monday-Friday each week.
