Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery is a leading not for profit organisation that is deeply dedicated to delivering programs and services to individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drugs. Windana champions recovery and has a mission to provide a positive impact that is Life-Changing – transforming the lives of individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependence.

In November 2023, Windana and Taskforce merged into a single organisation combining 50 years of history and a dedicated workforce across 12 locations in Victoria ($38M turnover). This recent growth starts an exciting new chapter, positioning the organisation into the future and extending their community impact.

Windana is seeking a visionary Board Chair to join the organisation and lead their Life-Changing mission. Backed by a dynamic executive team and a highly skilled, talent-rich Board, the Chair will orchestrate effective governance and provide strategic leadership. The successful candidate will navigate the merger transition with finesse, and effectively combining the strengths of both organisations.

We are seeking expressions of interest from leaders who demonstrate the following

  • A strong connection with Windana’s purpose: Demonstrates a strong commitment to our mission of supporting individuals impacted by addiction and trauma.
  • A track record of steering/leading an organisation through transformation and change: Demonstrates experience in successfully navigating organisational changes, particularly through mergers or significant transformations.
  • Board and corporate governance experience: With a minimum of 3 years chairing a Board and/or Board committee, demonstrating a solid understanding of governance principles. AICD membership and training highly regarded.
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership: Demonstrates a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive leadership style, fostering a productive team culture and building strong relationships.
  • Strong leadership stance: Demonstrates unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of the organisation's governance framework, fostering transparent communication and accountability across all levels of leadership, and ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the organisation and its stakeholders.
  • Broad health sector knowledge: especially an understanding of the intersectionality of AOD and the political environment for AOD. Someone with experience in the health sector, especially mental health highly regarded.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to advocate to funders / stakeholders and publicly as required.
