Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is the Gold Coast’s only dedicated Aboriginal cultural centre and provides a one-of-a-kind educational and immersive tourism experience. Operated by Kalwun Development Corporation, a not-for-profit organisation that provides housing, health, aged care and family support services to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, Jellurgal aims to preserve, promote and share Aboriginal culture.

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Aboriginal community member to join Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre’s amazing team to provide cultural tours, education and workshops to guests including school groups, visitors to the Gold Coast and the wider community. 

The role, based at the centre in Burleigh Heads, is a part time position suited to individuals who are passionate about sharing Aboriginal culture and knowledge and working with a wide range of individuals and groups. The centre is open seven days a week, with this position expected to work Monday to Thursday 9am – 1pm with the possibility of occasional weekend rostering. On-the-job training will be provided with the guidance and support of the Jellurgal team and our stakeholders.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be provided with on-the-job training.
  • Conduct cultural tours and cultural workshops both at the centre and at locations across the Gold Coast.
  • Provide education on the local area, sharing history and stories.
  • Plan, book and manage tour and education groups of varying sizes.
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with visitors, industry partners, community, colleagues, Elders and other clients.
  • Liaise with relevant internal staff, stakeholders and Regional/State Tourism Organisations. 
  • Prepare barista-style coffee (training provided).
  • Operate in a retail environment including sales of artwork and other products.
  • Provide administrative support including emails and phone calls as required.

Mandatory Terms

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check, hold a current drivers' license and hold a blue card for working with children. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a blue card must be obtained prior to commencement. 
  • *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
