Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.

KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 30 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence-based best practice in primary health care.

KAMS is a founding member of KAHRA, and the KAHRA team sits within KAMS. The aim of KAHRA is to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley through health research done the right way, led by Aboriginal people (https://kahra.org.au).

About the Opportunity

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is seeking a KAHRA Evaluation and Research Manager to join their team on a full-time fixed term basis until the end of 2023.

The KAHRA Evaluation and Research Manager manages and provide high-level advice regarding evaluation and research pertaining to KAHRA activities and projects. This role is accountable to demonstrate achievement of performance objectives, and expected to work together effectively with the KAHRA team to bring together Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal community-controlled and government health services, and research institutes in a partnership to tackle some of the most complex health issues facing Aboriginal people living in the Kimberley.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and refine systems and processes between communities, external researchers, and health services that promote research and ways of working that achieve the objectives of KAHRA and adhere to its principles. 
  • Responsible for designing and facilitating research requested by communities and health services, supporting co-design of research with services and upskilling of health provider staff in research and analytics.
  • Data analysis, development of research reports and papers and management of KAHRA outputs.
  • Build networks and relationships with communities and other stakeholders outside KAHRA.
  • Maintain personal level of knowledge and expertise in issues relating to the evidence base for Aboriginal health and research and evaluation methodologies.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability in working with key partners to ensure research objectives are achieved and strong skills in data collection/management, analysis and reporting.

About You

To be considered for this position you will have experience and training to a level equivalent to a Doctor of Philosophy and knowledge and skills in quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require a Current drivers licence, and either hold or be willing to obtain a National Police Clearance clearance prior to commencement.
