About the Role

A new opportunity has arisen with genU to assist with the delivery of Low Intensity Mental Health Services. This program is supported by the Western Victoria Primary Health Network under the Australian Government’s Primary Health Networks Program.

The Case Manager role involves providing short-term psychological interventions to support people with or at risk of mild mental illness. Support to clients will be provided using telehealth and face to face servicing and will involve a combination of working from an office and working from home.

This is part time (3 days per week) 12 month contract will cover the catchment area of Wimmera Grampians, including: City of Horsham, West Wimmera Shire, Hindmarsh Shire, Yarriambiack Shire, Northern Grampians. The role requires the successful candidate to be flexible with travel.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Contract Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Triaging and coordinating intake and referral of clients
  • Using a person-centred approach, working with individuals on a one-to-one basis and in groups to support those experiencing mild mental health symptoms
  • Promoting with potential referrers and other local service providers awareness and understanding of low intensity mental health services across the region and how to refer
  • Developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships as part of building a caseload through communication and engagement activities
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients on their health condition and use short-term evidence based and best practice interventions to assist them to better manage their health and wellbeing
  • Assess and provide clients with practical techniques that enable them to understand and manage their conditions on a long-term basis
  • Refer clients to relevant external health or specialist services as required
  • Facilitate and support navigation and access to a range of digital and on-line services
  • Ensure all services are delivered within a quality framework which ensures clear clinical governance and compliance with national standards

About You

All Low Intensity mental health services are to be provided by mental health professionals who have:

  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Cert IV in Mental Health or Mental Health Peer work or Community services or equivalent
  • Or mental health qualifications in psychology, counselling or a related field
  • Skills and qualities appropriate for supporting people with symptoms of mild mental illness
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, incorporating effective planning, time management and organisational skills to achieve quality outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills and behaviours, including verbal and written communication, flexibility, and resilience
  • High level skills in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • A current drivers’ licence
  • Desirable, completed training in the delivery of the specific low intensity intervention
