Located on Noongar country, Karla Kuliny Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation committed to fostering positive change in support and service delivery for Aboriginal children, young people, families, and communities. Established by Glenda Kickett, an Indigenous Social Worker with over 30 years of invaluable experience, Karla Kuliny embodies a culturally robust, child-centred, and trauma-informed approach to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by First Nations children, youth, and families. Our focus areas encompass child protection, out-of-home care, and youth justice.

About Karla Kuliny:

At Karla Kuliny, we recognise the vital role of culture in well-being and are deeply attuned to the systemic gaps in responses to intergenerational trauma. Our services extend to providing out-of-home care for foster children in Perth Metro and the Off and Racing Youth Service program, actively engaging in transformative initiatives for family support and youth well-being.

\Karla Kuliny will now also deliver the Home Stretch Program in partnership with the Department of Communities. Home Stretch provides young people leaving Out of Home Care with the option to continue to receive support up until the age of 21. The Home Stretch WA model was co-designed with young people with lived experience of transitioning from care, with a particular focus on the needs of young Aboriginal people and their families.

About the role:

As a Staying on Facilitator, you will play a key role in the Home Stretch Program, you will establish, coordinator and review Staying On Agreements that will assist them to be supported to continue living arrangements until the young person is 21 years old. The Staying On Facilitator will work in close collaboration with the Department of Communities to organise ongoing payments of relevant subsidies. The role will work closely with the teams Transition Coach’s in supporting families and young people who wish to reconnect with their biological family, as required.

This role will also work closely with Staying On carers in relation to parenting a young adult, and assist in supporting their current living arrangements.

Key Selection Criteria/About You:

For this role, you should possess:

  • Qualifications: appropriate tertiary qualifications in a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Experience: Proven experience in family support, facilitating intervention and mediation, or case management
  • Collaborator and an effective communicator: you will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to build meaningful relationships, and work effectively in a collaborative way with various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of child protection systems and familiarity with relevant legislation and policies
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Experience demonstrating a strong understanding of and alignment with the cultural values, ethos, and sensitivity required when working within Aboriginal or Indigenous community settings.
