Katherine Community Radio Inc (broadcasting as ‘Katherine FM’) is seeking to fill an exciting new position to coordinate the functions of our growing station in our remote, top-end town.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about community and the power of bringing people together through local stories, voices and music. The Station Coordinator will work alongside and in support of our volunteers and stakeholders to oversee and build this community resource.
Katherine Community Radio has been broadcasting for over 30 years, currently on 101.3FM locally and digitally on iHeartRadio. We are a not-for-profit community association currently run by dedicated volunteers and presenters. Katherine FM has developed a solid base of local sponsors who have been the financial bedrock of our station for many years. Our facilities allow for local voices to be heard on air and around the world.
In November 2024 Katherine FM was successful in securing a Community Broadcasting Foundation, Development Grant to financially support this Station Coordinator position. Despite strong volunteer input over many years, the Committee of Management recognised the limits of volunteer time and how this affects the station's ability to make the most of the opportunities that present in our community. As a result, this role - a dedicated and paid employee to oversee core station functions and build where possible – was developed and funded.
The Station Coordinator will report to and be supported the Katherine FM Committee of Management.
The right candidate will be a highly independent worker with excellent organisation skills and who understands the importance of organisational policies and procedures.
They will be able to work in a positive way with people from all walks of life.
There is no requirement to have a background in media or community broadcasting, although this will be seen very positively. The right candidate will however be a fast learner and able to adapt and learn new skills, including the range technical skills and organisational requirements of broadcasting.
This role is designed to be highly flexible to support a part-time worker. The structure of the how the 20 hour working week is completely open to negotiation. Part use of hours as Work From Home will be considered.
