We are looking for a Paralegal to join our multidisciplinary team in Kununurra WA, to provide support and advocacy to tenancy clients and paralegal and administrative support to our solicitors and their clients, throughout the East Kimberley.

You would be a key part of the legal team dedicated to serving clients from vulnerable groups, having a direct meaningful impact on individuals and the local community. The primary purpose of the role is to provide support to our tenancy clients and solicitors, engaging in advocacy and community education.
No two days will look the same, but a typical day might entail:
- Providing information, advocacy, support, negotiation, options and appropriate referrals to clients with residential tenancy issues.
- Acting as client liaison and support between solicitors, clients and departments, as part of a holistic and client-focused service.
- Assisting in the drafting and preparation of legal documents and correspondence including conflict checks and referrals.
- Effectively managing client files, databases and intake sheets.
- Coordinating diaries, appointments and meetings for solicitors.
- Assisting in the organisation of events and programs across services including outreach to remote locations if required.
- Delivering community education programs alongside solicitors and other KCLS staff.
- Engaging in professional development activities to maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
We are searching for someone who can meet most of the following selection criteria:
- Demonstrated computer and secretarial/administration experience in frontline client services, maintaining records in a confidential and sensitive manner.
- Experience in a community legal practice setting and/or community-based organisation in remote and rural Australia.
- Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills, engaging effectively with a diverse range of people, groups, and organisations including Aboriginal communities.
- Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage workload, competing demands, and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and ability to working effectively with Aboriginal people.
- Personal resilience, adaptability and ability to meet the challenges of remote service delivery and difficult clients.
- Current driver’s license valid for use in WA.
