Georges River Council is seeking an experienced and passionate waste professional to come onboard in our key education role, where collaboration is the key to success.

The Role

As Waste Education Officer you will develop, implement and deliver community education addressing a range of waste management, minimisation and recycling initiatives.

The successful candidate will also work at a strategic level, developing and implementing a Waste Education Strategy in line with Council’s 2021-40 Waste Strategy.

What we can offer you

  • Permanent, Full-Time - 70 hours per fortnight  
  • Salary from $87,770.80 - $101,695.64 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (dependant on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

  • 9-day fortnight subject to operational requirements
  • Hybrid working arrangements, including work from home up to 2 days per week 
  • Located in Hurstville CBD – 5-minute walk to train station

The successful candidate will have

  • Extensive experience working within the waste or resource recovery industry or tertiary qualifications in environmental education, communications or a similar field
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills and ability to liaise effectively, professionally and build relationships with external bodies, internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously to meet given targets
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute proactively within a team environment
  • Flexibility to work outside of and in addition to usual hours of work
  • Ability to provide efficient and effective customer service
  • Sound expertise in Microsoft Office applications
  • Class C Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Ability to speak a community Language – i.e. Cantonese, and or Mandarin
  • Project Management and Implementation skills
  • Local Government experience
