WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Accommodation Options for Families (AOF) Worker delivers targeted housing support to families and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

In this role, you will assist families to move from inappropriate, unsafe or unaffordable accommodation into short-term accommodation with a view to assisting them into long-term sustainable housing, often in the private rental market.

Where required, you will link families with appropriate long term support services and assist families and children to positively engage in their communities of choice. You will also work closely with various entry points within the local region.

you will:

  • Provide outreach services that assess, monitors and evaluates the housing and support needs of a small caseload of families and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Work with a strengths-based approach, empowering people to make changes or gain understanding of things going on in their lives.
  • Deliver ongoing case-management housing and support services to families and children living in purchased short term accommodation and/or private rental accommodation. Services provided will include crisis intervention, assistance to secure safe, affordable and secure accommodation, assistance to secure or maintain long term accommodation, assistance with public and social housing applications, distribution of financial assistance and links to appropriate support services.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA):

  • Experience working with clients with complex needs and social policy/client support frameworks (highly desired).
  • High levels of interpersonal skills, active listening, empathy, social awareness and emotional intelligence in verbal communications.
  • Experience in client advocacy.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and to adjust personal style in response to client differences.
  • Effective time-management and ability to take responsibility for work outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A valid Victorian driver’s licence (mandatory).
  • A relevant tertiary education or demonstrated experience working in housing/case management (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
