WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

We are seeking the services of an experienced, motivated, enthusiastic, skilled and qualified Social Worker or associated professional who enjoys working with people with multiple and complex needs in a permanent housing setting.

You'll be part of our Elizabeth Street Common Ground (ESCG) team. At ESCG, we have a successful model of housing for people who have experienced chronic homelessness and provides permanent affordable housing to 131 people, 65 of whom have experienced chronic homelessness and have multiple and complex support needs.

The model also provides 24-hour on-site support/concierge services, with a number of allied health and recreation/educational services also located on site. Launch Housing provides support services and Unison manage all property and tenancy services.

Reporting to the Coordinator - (Elisabeth Street Common Ground) ESCG, you'll assist people who have experienced chronical homelessness to maintain their housing independently, as well as achieve improvements in personal well-being, social connectedness within a trauma informed care and recovery focused framework.

The role offers a unique learning opportunity and experience that will enable you to build high level experience/skill working with vulnerable people.

You will

  • Develop long term case plans with residents and assisting them to implement strategies to achieve their goals by building on their strengths, aspirations and focusing on solutions.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with residents using flexible engagement strategies to build positive relationships that support self-determination, independence and achieve their case plan goals.
  • Work closely with Unison Housing to support residents to address tenancy related issues to sustain tenancies.
  • Advocate for residents in legal/housing matters through linkage to professional legal counsel and the provision of support documentation, liaison with the landlord, external mental health, and legal service providers, and/or attendance at VCAT and or court.
  • Advocate on behalf of residents with other agencies to ensure access and delivery of services.

Note: The role will have a strong focus on supporting clients who identify as women and who have experienced domestic violence, and as such, candidates who identify as female, woman or female presenting will be preferred.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA)

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in human services, social work or other related disciplines.
  • Experience in the delivery of support services to residents with complex needs relating to homelessness.
  • Understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and a recovery focused principles and practice
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Full Driver’s License.
