About the opportunity

Launch Housing delivers long term housing in the form of affordable, social and general lease rents made up of Launch owned or managed units (approximately 229) across metropolitan Melbourne, the majority being in the inner north and northwest, as part of our mission to End Homelessness.

Launch Housing’s Youth Support Services programs support young people aged 16-25 who are either unable to live at home or experiencing difficulties in maintaining housing. In addition to providing housing support, the Youth Services programs focus on education, employment and the development of independent living skills and enhancing community connection.

As the Young Adult Support Worker, you'll assist with the immediate and ongoing support needs of clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness, through the provision of a range of intervention options ensuring that the client's needs are translated into a personal program that encourages the client's independence, empowerment, autonomy and dignity. This support may be provided in a range of environments including interim response support, funded accommodation services (THM, Youth Refuge), private housing or via assertive outreach to clients experiencing housing crisis.

  • Permanent, part-time (68.4 hours per fortnight)
  • Based in Cheltenham
  • $44.37 per hour + super + NFP salary packaging + additional wellbeing leave

What you'll be doing

  • Work from strengths based and trauma informed case management practice frameworks, to support young people to identify and achieve their goals.
  • Develop case plans in conjunction with clients and implement strategies that enable clients to achieve their goals by building on their strengths and focusing on solutions.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with vulnerable clients using flexible engagement strategies to achieve case plan goals.
  • Coordinate services required by the client and monitor their ongoing effectiveness.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients where agreed, including liaison with mental health, drug and alcohol services, legal institutes, government, and non-government service providers.

What we're looking for (key selection criteria)

  • Valid Victorian Driver’s Licence (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated experience in client facing human services, social work or other relevant discipline, with a preference for an understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate with young people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working ethically with young people, as defined by the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and both the individual and structural causes which lead to addiction and dependence.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth work, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
