The Research Assistant (RA) is part of the research team at the Foundation and provides flexible support for a wide range of research activities. The RA contributes to the development, delivery and dissemination of high-quality research.

Are you an experienced Research Assistant, interested in contributing your quantitative and qualitative skills to a team of researchers committed to improving access to justice for the people of NSW?

The Law and Justice Foundation of NSW (‘the Foundation’) is an independent statutory body that addresses the legal needs of the community by creating, harnessing and sharing quality evidence.

About you

Our ideal candidate is methodical, rigorous, organised and flexible, with skills to support qualitative and quantitative research work. You will work in a dynamic environment and your tasks will vary depending on the research projects in progress at any time.

You will be required to demonstrate competence in the following:

  • Collation and dissemination of research evidence, including literature searches, maintaining literature databases, monitoring the release of new research publications, and contributing to the development of written and visual content for the Foundation’s research materials.
  • Managing research data, including extracting, collating and cleaning datasets, contributing to analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, and supporting data collection activities.
  • Administration and organisation including record keeping, document management and logistics.

Skills and selection criteria

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social sciences, psychology, criminology, law or other relevant discipline.
  • Mixed methods research skills, with the ability to support qualitative and quantitative research projects.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles to a diverse range of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to produce high quality, timely outputs.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, time management, and reporting skills.
  • Experience in the use of databases and software packages such SPSS, NVivo and Endnote.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an academic, government, or non-government organisation.

Working arrangements

The role is offered on a casual basis with an expected average of 21 hours per week, though a permanent part-time position (21 hours per week) may be considered for the right candidate. Hybrid working arrangements are offered, with attendance at a Sydney CBD office required at least one day per week and on an as needs basis. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia. The RA is responsible to the Research Director, Law and Justice Foundation of NSW.

Salary and benefits

  • Dependent on experience and qualifications, $45-$55 per hour + Super.
  • Flexible and hybrid work arrangements.
