The Family Violence Counsellor provides evidence-based counselling to support the wellbeing and development of victim survivors of family violence (adults, children and young people) who are survivors of family violence. They help connect people directly to services and provide coordinated response to a range of different needs, and where required a whole-of-family violence response, including holding those who use family violence to account. All counselling provided for women is client-centred, strength-based and trauma-informed.

Key elements of the service include:

• Assess and prioritise client risks and needs, facilitating goal setting and safety plan creation
• Manage intake duties, waitlist, and demand, including handling client inquiries and allocation management
• Six to ten appointments for goal directed support to improve the safety, emotional health, wellbeing and sense of empowerment for victim survivors experiencing or recovering from family violence
• Collaborations with other services to facilitate coordination of care and assist with referral pathways.

To be successful, you will require;

As per the minimum mandatory qualifications requirements via https://www.vic.gov.au/mandatory-minimum-qualifications-specialist-family-violence-practitioners all candidates wishing to apply for this role must be able to demonstrate that they:

• Are considered exempt under the policy, or
• Hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification, or
• Have minimum 5 years relevant professional experience, OR a related qualification as per the mandatory minimum qualification requirements, or
• Hold significant cultural knowledge and experience or lived experience, and have faced barriers to educational pathway
