About Us

The Lost Dogs’ Home (LDH) is a non-profit company limited by guarantee (ACN 004 789 726) and a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

The Home is one of Victoria’s most iconic animal welfare organisations, caring for around 18,000 lost and abandoned dogs and cats each year. We provide a wide range of animal welfare and community programs and services to help give animals and we pride ourselves on employing passionate individuals who demonstrate a strong personal connection to animals, the community and the cause.

About the Role

LDH operates with a Board of 7 voluntary directors, who meet approximately once every 6-8 weeks. Each Board Member also attends regular special purpose sub-committee meetings based on their field of professional expertise.

Responsibilities of LDH Board Members include:

  • Attending and actively contributing to decision making through regular Board meetings;
  • Offering expertise in their field of professional expertise;
  • Ensuring effective governance and organisational performance;
  • Contributing to and review of strategic plans and risk management;
  • Participating on special purpose sub-committees.

About You

You will be an advocate for advancing the wellbeing of animals and passionate about LDH’s vision to give animals the best chance of a happy and healthy life. You will possess demonstrated strategic problem-solving skills coupled with commercial acumen and experience across a breadth of organisational functions. Ideally, you will have experience serving as a member of a Board or have participated in organisational governance activities at an executive or Board level.

Time Commitment

  • Attendance at approximately 7 Board meetings per year, held every 6-8 weeks (approx. 1.5 -2 hrs), plus preparatory reading.
  • Membership and attendance on at least one sub-committee, meeting approx. every two months for 2 hours.
  • Attendance at the AGM and other ad-hoc events (approx. 2-3 per year).
