Summary of Role

The Senior Programs Officer is a key role within AIDA’s Programs and Outcomes portfolio, instrumental in shaping initiatives that drive positive health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through supporting and growing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical workforce and creating a culturally safe health system. The role involves complex tasks under limited direction, allowing for autonomy while requiring initiative and sound judgment to ensure the successful delivery of AIDA’s programs.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Programs Officer will collaborate closely with diverse teams and stakeholders cultivating a culture of shared purpose. The role will undertake work that is complex in nature, under limited direction, with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability. The role will exercise initiative and judgement In leading and supporting the successful delivery of AIDA’s projects and programs. Performance will be evaluated based on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to program outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and contribution to team objectives.

In more detail, the Senior Programs Officer will:

  1. Demonstrate a sound understanding of current and historical issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  2. Communicate and work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  3. Engage proactively with stakeholders to build collaborative partnerships and ensure alignment with AIDA’s strategic goals.
  4. Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of program data to measure impact and identify areas for improvement.
  5. Develop and implement tools for program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to inform decision making.
  6. Develop and implement risk management strategies to address potential issues that could impact program delivery.
  7. Liaise with external consultants, monitor and ensure service agreements are delivered on time and within budget.
  8. Monitor funding agreements and operational plans to ensure deliverables are met.
  9. Coordinate and provide secretariat support to working groups and Committees.
  10. Prepare presentations, briefings and reports.
  11. Represent AIDA at conferences, meetings, and forums to promote the organisation’s programs and build networks.
  12. Act as an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, sharing insights and promoting culturally safe practices.
  13. Develop and implement risk management strategies to address potential issues that could impact program delivery.
  14. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by seeking feedback from stakeholders and implementing changes to enhance program effectiveness.
  15. Create opportunities for sharing knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices across teams.

  • Commitment to culturally safe practice and improving self-determination and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • A sound understanding of current and historical issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • Proven skills in stakeholder management including the ability to engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to promote and achieve organisational objectives.
  • Ability to successfully manage projects including ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing work priorities to deliver quality outcomes within short timeframes and with minimal supervision.
  • High level of both written and verbal communication capabilities across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to use initiative and problem-solve to achieve results in accordance with practices and policies.
  • High-level attention to detail.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly to fulfil individual and team performance goals.

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of the medical education and training continuum.
