Local Government Professionals Australia is the national office of the peak body representing professionals working in local government across Australia. We focus on developing the skills and professionalism of local government workers and the broader local government sector to build better communities around Australia as well as build connections and facilitate sharing between local government internationally.

Our organisation offers networking and events for local government professionals, as well as international programs and exchanges, major national conferences and management training programs.

Your Role & the Opportunity:

LG Professionals Australia is currently seeking a responsible Admin Officer to perform a variety of administrative, event, and office-related tasks. Duties of the Admin Officer include providing administrative and office support to our CEO and team, coordination for the Board and Board Sub-Committees including travel arrangements, assistance in delivering events both in Canberra and nationally, and managing our company’s general administrative activities. Excellent attention to detail and ensuring completion of workload in a timely manner is key to success in this position.

Job Duties:

  • Supporting the coordination of the Board and Board Sub-Committees including the formatting and distribution of papers, travel and meeting arrangements, and provision of administrative support
  • Arranging travel bookings and logistics for staff, the Board, President and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the HR functions of the organisation
  • Supporting the accountants in the processing of invoices and other financial tasks
  • Developing and fostering positive and professional relationships with all team members and external stakeholders
  • Formatting documents and electronic filing
  • Assisting with event logistics for the national conference, and Canberra-based meetings/events.
  • Assisting with other ad-hoc general duties including project support to staff

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an Admin, Office support or Junior HR role
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling matters
  • High degree of accuracy and productivity when working at a fast pace with short turn-around times
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • A sound working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise between different tasks and projects
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A good level of emotional intelligence and resilience.
  • Previous work with a small organisation, peak body or local government would be highly regarded
