An exciting opportunity is coming up to join the Board of a community-led LGBTQIA+ charity in north-east Victoria.

About us

LINE (LGBTQIA+ In the North-East) Wangaratta is a community-led not-for-profit charity that coordinates social inclusion programs and events, aims at connection and support, raises awareness in the community, supports services and businesses to be LGBTQIA+ inclusive and has a vision of change in the north east region.

LINE Wangaratta is on Bpangerang Country, located in Wangaratta, and coordinates programs and services in the Alpine, Indigo, Benalla, Mansfield, Moira, and Wangaratta local government areas, operating from the Pride Hub located in Wangaratta.

LINE Wangaratta Inc. works within a community development framework to bring people together for social support, to build capacity, and to improve health and well-being of LGBTQIA+ people, their friends and families, and allies in north-east Victoria.

The opportunity

We are looking for passionate, skilled, and experienced leaders, who can work with a diverse Board, in a growing community organisation. We’re particularly seeking fresh, enterprising, and strategic thinkers as we deliver our vision for the future: LINE Wangaratta will be a leader in LGBTQIA+ celebration, inclusion, and empowerment in the north-east community.

Our mission: LINE Wangaratta is committed to seeing positive, genuine change in the north-east community, where LGBTQIA+ people feel respected, safe, supported, and have the courage to speak-up against injustice and celebrate diversity and inclusion. We do this through our values of Education, Collaboration, Social Justice, Respect, Compassion and Empowerment.

This role will see you utilise your experience and skills in governance to drive the strategic direction of the organisation.

There will be a variety of roles available at our AGM in August, including:

  • Secretary,
  • Treasurer, and
  • Ordinary Committee Member.

The role of the Board is to ensure that LINE Wangaratta carries out its vision and achieves its strategic objectives practically, sustainably, ethically and in accordance with its constitution, relevant laws, regulations, and good governance practice. Board roles are voluntary.

The Board and its committees’ responsibilities include:

  • Setting the strategic direction and monitoring the overall performance outcomes and workplace culture,
  • Overseeing financial statements (balance sheets and P&L), annual audits, as well as asset and risk management,
  • Appointing and monitoring the performance of the EO,
  • Endorsing the annual report,
  • Operating in accordance with the financial, social, and ethical objectives,
  • Ensuring that LINE Wangaratta’s internal and external practices are aligned with the priorities and objectives as set out in the strategic plan,
  • Identifying and advising on sector trends, risks, and opportunities,
  • Contribute to the preparation of Board papers and presentations, as required.

  • Monthly meetings (offered hybrid in-person and online) of 1 ½ - 2 hours,
  • A Strategic Planning workshop in early 2025,
  • Professional Development opportunities, and
  • A diverse team of staff, volunteers, and board members.

Conditions of engagement

Applicants will meet the criteria laid out above and:

  • Undergo a national Police Check and Working with Children Check,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ACNC governance standards and be willing to undertake governance professional development, if not already qualified,
  • Provide confidence and clarity to the LINE Wangaratta Board and Management about effective financial risk management,
  • Demonstrate governance experience in a community organisation and/or charity,
  • Enter into a confidentiality agreement,
  • Adhere to relevant codes of conduct and policies.
