About Us

Lionheart Camp for Kids (Lionheart) is a not for profit organisation working to support some of WA’s most vulnerable children and families following the death of a family member.

Lionheart has played a significant role in developing a connected, compassionate and caring WA society, where grief is seen as a natural, healthy and normal response to loss by providing children’s bereavement programs. Lionheart is an organisation run by passionate and skilled bereavement professionals, and is supported by caring volunteers. We offer education programs and camps to grieving families and children in Western Australia, with most of our programs being held on Whadjuk Noongar boodjar.

About the Role

  • Subcontractor position
  • Part-time hours (0.6 – 1.0 FTE) – negotiable for the right person
  • Fixed-term contract commencing February 2025 until April 2026 with possible extension pending funding.

The position of ‘Grief Coach’ is a sub-contractor based role and reports to the CEO. Grief Coaches are responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day contact with some of Lionheart's key stakeholders (families) to engage, facilitate and support them through their journey as part of the Raw to Roar: Lionheart’s Grief Pathway program. Integral to the Grief Coach role is the responsibility to establish and maintain meaningful relationships.

Our Grief Coaches guide families through the Raw to Roar program. This includes responding to and contacting families following their initial enquiry into Lionheart, through to their registration, assessment, and ongoing support throughout their time in the Raw to Roar program. Lionheart’s Grief Coaches also plan and facilitate group/peer opportunities for families to meet together in person. As part of pilot, our Grief Coaches work collaboratively with other Lionheart staff to continue to develop a comprehensive and robust Grief Pathway pilot.

About You

To be considered for this position, applicants will have:

  • Commitment to helping people move from grief and despair to hope, stability and resilience.
  • Tertiary degree qualification in health, education, social science/social work or approved equivalent with demonstrated experience.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Current valid drivers’ licence and suitable car to travel
  • Ability to complete all Child Safety checks, including a valid Working with Children Check, a valid National Police Clearance, referee checks and ChildSafe training.

We also prefer applicants with experience in public relations and/or public speaking, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
