CREST Re-Entry Support Officer - Cairns

Lives Lived Well

At Lives Lived Well, we’ve been treating and supporting people whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drugs for over 50 years. We also support people with mental health and gambling concerns and those transitioning from correctional centres. We’re growing fast and building a reputation as a trusted, innovative provider, focused on clinical excellence… and we’d love you to be part of it.

If you have compassion, the ability to work without judgment and share our belief in recovery, then join us and open up your career in human services.

CREST (Community Re-Entry Services Team) is our corrective services re-entry program being offered in Far North & Central Queensland. The challenges that people face on release can cause stress and worry. However, with support, they can get their lives back on track. CREST works to help people plan their release, connecting them to the right community supports. Some examples might be health, housing/accommodation, employment and drug and alcohol issues.

Your opportunity

You will be working as part of our FNQ team in the Cairns region, which consists of a Team Leader, and 3 other Re-Entry officers. In terms of the team, they’re an easy-going bunch, who are flexible, work within a fast paced environment, and able to navigate through the complexities of the client base. You will be part of the team of 2 working predominantly from the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. You will work with clients subject to Corrective Services orders, supporting clients as part of our Community Re-entry Services Team (CREST), to support clients transitioning from custody.

What does this mean?

This is a role that has a big impact. You’ll walk alongside our clients changing their lives for the better, to set goals upon re-entry to the community and help achieve these goals. All while being supported and guided by a team of humble humans who really care. This is a part time role initially, working 22.8 hours a week spread across three days, with the view to increase hours to full time in the future.

The majority of your time will be spent within the prison with our clients. You will have access to a company vehicle if you need to travel from Cairns, or this is an ideal opportunity for someone living locally within Mareeba or Atherton.

You’ll know that you’re leaving a positive wake when:

  • You’re able to connect with clients who are navigating mental health challenges and difficult life experiences.
  • You’re able to navigate the challenges of new situations, creating solutions and adapting on the spot.
  • You can work both autonomously in both low and high security settings, and work collaboratively within a team

What you’ll bring

In terms of the role itself, you’re a superstar when it comes to case management and case noting. You’re confident in using computer applications including Microsoft Outlook and excel, and you’re able to manage a high caseload of clients, and can prioritise your workload in a prison environment.

  • You’ll need to know how to set and maintain good boundaries - with clients, colleagues and yourself. What we do isn’t always easy, so taking care of yourself is most important! Practicing self care is essential.
  • You’ll be comfortable working on your own, in a large prison setting
  • You have the capacity to be flexible and navigate the unexpected.
  • You’ll be able to think on your feet, problem solve and handle pressure.
  • You’ll have a genuine desire to support people in making a positive difference to their lives.
  • You’ll be reliable, resilient, persistent and non-judgmental.

And importantly, you’ll live and breathe our values, which means:

  • You are humble, human and full of hope.
  • You show up and share.
  • You ask: Why not? And what’s next?
  • You leave a positive wake.

We believe that, through these values, we do our best work - for each other, for clients, and for the communities we work in. And it’s a promise we make to you about the kind of experience you will have working for us.

Why work for Lives Lived Well?

It’s about people, purpose, impact and growth.

We think you’ll love working with our talented people across services that are as diverse as the communities we work in. We’ve grown significantly, with no plans of slowing down ... giving you a real opportunity to go further!

At Lives Lived Well, you can:

  • Grow as a person and as a professional, extending your knowledge and skills beyond the norm.
  • Be trusted with autonomy in a supportive, respectful environment.
  • Make a lasting difference - on clients, the community and a team that cares as much as you.

But it’s more than that.

You’ll join a curious team that thinks differently and seeks new ways. We look to the evidence. We explore new ideas. And when we reach “better”, we ask, “What’s next?” Which means you’ll need to be comfortable with change - you’ll enjoy variety, the agility, and the opportunity to achieve more, faster.

And while you support others, we’ll support you, including access to a range of training opportunities and wellness activities along with the opportunity to explore other careers at Lives Lived Well.

The salary range for this position commences at $77,577.76 (pro rata) and is classified at Level 4 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010.
