Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services (LCMS) is a leading not-for-profit (NFP) multicultural organisation that strives to amplify the voices of our region’s multicultural community members, and to support them to exercise their human rights across the breadth of social, cultural, economic and civic life. LCMS is seeking voluntary board members who will champion the vision, values, and strategic priorities of the organisation as set out in its 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.

To ensure the LCMS Board is equipped to oversee the implementation of its Strategic Plan, we are seeking Expressions of Interest from emerging and experienced board members who live or work in the Loddon Campaspe region, with any one or more of the following areas of knowledge/skill:

  • Risk and Compliance (e.g. developing and monitoring policies and risk management framework)
  • Governance (understanding legal duties and compliance requirements for an ACNC-registered charities)
  • Finance & Audit (e.g. ability to analyse balance sheets, assess cash flow forecasts and work with auditors)
  • Human Resources (HR) and Performance Evaluation (including recruitment, KPI development and review)
  • Strategic Plan knowledge
  • Office bearer experience – e.g. as a Board Chair, Secretary or Treasurer

KEY RESPONSIBILITiES

The role of voluntary board director includes committing time per month to LCMS activities including:

  • Attending (in person or online) 8 board meetings per annum (approx. 2 hours per meeting) and other events from time to time such as the Annual General Meeting, and LCMS functions;
  • Participating in a monthly online sub-committee meeting or other working group meetings as required;
  • Pre-reading of board papers (i.e. agendas, reports, minutes and motions) and considering the issues raised in preparation for board and sub-committee meetings;
  • Contributing to the discussion and resolution of issues during or between meetings;
  • Posing strategic questions to ensure the choices the Board makes are consistent with its Strategic Plan;
  • Monitoring and reviewing the performance of the Board;
  • Monitoring and reviewing operating budgets and processes to ensure financial integrity and sustainability.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Lives and works in the Loddon Campaspe region.

  • Passion for inclusion and diversity and lived experience or involvement with First Nations communities and/or multicultural communities, including refugee and migrant communities.
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of governance, including: finance, risk and compliance, human resources, strategic planning/monitoring, secretarial proficiency, and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to contribute to that area.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the other Directors and CEO while maintaining independent thought and preparedness to ask questions and contribute constructively and respectfully to robust discussion.
  • Strong understanding of, and commitment to, the values of LCMS and a Human Rights framework.
  • Well organised and task orientated, ability to investigate and analyse complex issues and to provide sound in-depth judgement.

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be at least 18 years of age.
  2. All board members will be required to undergo a satisfactory police check and to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
