Lock the Gate is a national grassroots alliance made up of over 200 community groups, including 49 groups in Queensland. Our focus is on community concerns about inappropriate coal and gas mining and we support regional and urban populations to defeat coal and gas projects and realise viable alternatives.
Queensland is one of the biggest coal and gas exporting regions in the world. Coal and gas companies across Queensland are pursuing massive expansion plans at a time when the International Energy Agency has indicated that no further fossil fuel projects should be approved if the world is to avert climate disaster.
Communities at the frontline of coal and gas projects are grappling with direct impacts of those projects on land, water and culture, as well as living with the impacts of more and more extreme weather fuelled by climate change. This role would work directly with impacted communities, as well as supporters in urban centres.
This role requires a self-motivated individual experienced in strategic campaigning, and with good people skills. The role’s purpose is to provide strategic support to garner reforms on the regulation of coal and gas mining in Queensland and to advocate on key state-wide mining issues and projects.
The campaigner will have strong writing and communication skills, and an appreciation of the social impacts of coal and gas mining. An understanding of mining regulation, and the current situation with coal and gas developments would be a bonus. The campaigner will be flexible, resourceful and demonstrate the ability to work creatively with every member of the Lock the Gate team and other allies.
The role requires self-direction and strategy development and will involve working collaboratively with allies. The coordinator will have a passion for protecting land and water from coal and gas mining and share the values of Lock the Gate.
The following are a bonus:
The role is a full time role (part time may be possible for the right candidate) and can be based Anywhere in Queensland, although a regional location is preferred.
For more information or if you have any questions regarding the role, please phone John Russell on 0407 632 864 or contact via email at [email protected], using the subject line: Queensland Campaign Coordinator - Flexible Location enquiry via EthicalJobs.
