La Trobe Student Union (LTSU) is seeking a first class professional to co-ordinate events, campaigns, operations and administration support for international students at the Melbourne Bundoora campus. The Officer will act as first point of contact to the student union, liaising with international students, LTSU Office Bearers, staff, university staff and external stakeholders.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

• 21 hours per week
• Fixed Term, until 30 June 2025
• Office based, located at La Trobe University’s Melbourne campus (Bundoora)
• $60,000 pro rata plus 17% Superannuation

ABOUT THE POSITION

The International Student Engagement Officer is responsible for the co-ordination of La Trobe Student Union’s campaigns, administration and events to international students on the Melbourne Bundoora campus. The Officer will act as first point of contact with international students to the student union, liaising with LTSU Office Bearers, staff, students, university staff and external stakeholders.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Student Engagement Manager, La Trobe Student Union.

Internal relationships: LTSU Office Bearers, Student Engagement Manager, General Manager, LTSU staff, and volunteers.

External relationships: Students, La Trobe University academic and administrative staff, government, NGO and community agencies, professional bodies, suppliers, contractors, trade unions, peer groups, education sector.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• First point of contact and liaison for all enquiries from international students
• Delivery of engagement activities for international students including events, campaigns and online initiatives
• To support the delivery of the LTSU’s volunteer, information and education campaigns and programs
• To grow and maintain international students as LTSU members
• Undertake other project work as required by the Student Engagement Manager

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be considered for this position, you will have:

• Well-developed and emotionally intelligent skills demonstrable in a professional environment
• Excellent proficiency in using PC based software including proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) in a professional environment
• Understanding and appreciation of different cultures, and experience of working with differing cultures in a professional setting
• Aptitude to establish strong rapport with people from all cultures, faiths and beliefs
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Fluency in English is essential and fluency in other languages is desirable
• Self-starter and highly organised administration skills in a professional environment
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills
• A team player with a positive “can do” attitude

DESIRABLE

• Demonstrated understanding of the Australian Education system
• Experience in student engagement and initiatives aimed at students
• Experience on the trade union movement
• Experience in working within a membership body
• Experience of website administration, digital and social media platforms, Adobe CS suite, InDesign, Photoshop, or other creative packages would be highly regarded
