Ltyentye Apurte Community Care is seeking a P/T Operational Support Officer which would provide an exciting opportunity to break up your week by living amongst the Ltyentye Apurte community for 2-3 days per week, offering support to a small yet vibrant community-led centre for the elderly.

Who are we?

Ltyentye Apurte Community Care (LACCare) delivers at-home Aged Care services to elderly people in the community of Ltyentye Apurte, also known as Santa Teresa, 80 kms southeast of Mparntwe, Alice Springs, on Eastern Arrernte Country.

This small Aboriginal corporation aims to best support the lives of the older generations and their families within our community, ensuring access to high quality services in line with National Aged Care Standards.

We are open weekdays, providing meals-on-wheels cooked by our local team members as well as laundry, group activities, individual support and transport for our clients.

Working for Indigenous old people and their families is one of the most impactful ways of supporting some of the community’s most vulnerable people. Being in community, you will be able to spend quality time with our clients and their families, listening to stories and learning about the culture of the Eastern Arrernte people. Working in a remote community provides the opportunity to work in unique and challenging environments which can have a positive impact on your work skills and understanding of First Nations people, Culture and communities.

The Role:

This role holds many benefits of working for a First Nations community while being located amongst the Elders and community members you work for, however, being only 1 hours’ drive from Mparntwe you are not required to fully relocate.

The Operations Support Officer would assist the manager in their daily at-home Aged Care administrative duties which will strengthen the capacity of this organisation. You would be warmly welcomed into this highly competent local team, many of which have worked within Aged Care for several years.

A component of your role would be to engage employees within certain activities you undertake, continuing to enhance the local leadership of this organisation and the training of individuals in Aged Care.

Whilst flexible, this P/T position would ideally stretch over 2-3 consecutive days with various daily tasks, including administrative duties, client consultations, skills transfer and daily general activities at the centre. You would be required to adhere to direction from LACCare’s Manager and local board; following our plans, policies, procedures and relevant community and cultural guidelines.

Standard requirements:

  • Obtain a courteous and respectful manner and communicate effectively with clients, community members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and knowledge around cultural safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality around clients and family’s information.
  • Hold a current National Police Check.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Key administrative responsibilities would be reporting in accordance with organisational and Aged Care requirements, facilitation of personal checks and assisting clients to negotiate relevant health services.
  • Mentoring and development of local staff to continue capacity building
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Compliance with organisational Work, Health & Safety requirements

Ideal candidate:

  • Diploma/Cert IV of Community Services
  • Background within Health/Aged Care administration
  • Experience working for an Aboriginal organisation and have strong awareness of the challenges First Nations people face within the region.
  • Commitment to delivering client-centered services aligned with the National Aged Care Standards
  • High level of numeracy, literacy and communications skill
  • Moderate level of computer skills.
  • Works effectively within a team and self-managed environments
  • COVID19 vaccinated.
