The Opportunity

Community Centres are not just rooms for hire, hobby or education facilities, they are hubs of active community engagement and places of welcome and safety. They play an important role strengthening and building social capital, improving health and well-being, resilience, cohesion, connectedness, empowerment and belonging in local communities.

We are looking to recruit a Centre Facilitator who will lead a small team to ensure the effective management of the Maribyrnong Community Centre, creating an environment where people feel welcome, safe and included in our local community. The Centre Facilitator will work collaboratively with other centres, key stakeholders (internally and externally) to develop and deliver a range community development programs and activities that lead to community-strengthening outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive links and working relationships with key local stakeholders, including other Community Centres, Council units, Neighbourhood Houses, local community organisations, and other relevant service providers.
  • Plan, deliver and regularly evaluate community focused, accessible activities that reflect the diverse population of the residents of the City of Maribyrnong and deliver community strengthening outcomes in line with Council Plan and departmental objectives.
  • Coordinate usage of the Centre for programs, meetings and functions (public and private hire), ensuring that community use is a priority, and liaise with relevant tenants to ensure effective overall coordination of use.
  • Lead, support and mentor staff located at the Centre in effective and accountable service planning and delivery according to identified project and program objectives.
  • Assist in building a positive work culture and environment for staff across the Centre and broader teams.
  • Monitor and report to the Coordinator Community Centres on the agreed budget and ensure that the Centre operates within its allocated resources.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences or other relevant community services discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and/or the management of community-based programs and the management of community facilities
  • Willingness/capacity to travel between locations during work
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • No relevant criminal record found in a Police Check
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain
  • Experience within local government or similar highly regulated organisation (Desirable).
