The Community Development Lead – Strategic Projects is a unique, exciting and rewarding role that is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of strategic projects, including (but not limited to) the Multicultural Employment Project 2023-2026, which aims to break down barriers and improve equity for culturally diverse and linguistically diverse people in the Tasmanian workforce. Working under the general direction of the CEO, this critical leadership role will be responsible for the delivery of moderately complex strategic projects throughout its project delivery cycle within budget and to schedule.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience and passion working with CALD communities and target groups (specifically refugees, migrants, international students and women) to improve equity outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and act within the appropriate cultural context for many different cultural groups, to build cultural capacity within community. 
  • Experience with the use of design thinking methodologies and frameworks.
  • Experience delivering cultural diversity action plans and cultural resources and educational material.
  • Strong project management knowledge and capability, managing and delivering multiple project outcomes. 
  • Demonstrated impact delivering similar sized projects for other For Purpose organisations and/or for the employment sector.
  • Strong financial acumen with a demonstrated ability to prepare project budgets.
  • Experience in writing successful grant submissions. 
  • High standard of written and verbal communication and collaboration skills, including negotiation, interpersonal and facilitation skills, particularly working with members from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • High level experience forging and nurturing strategic partnerships, particular in the employment sector.
  • High emotional intelligence, communication and influence skills to build authentic and trusting relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both with a high degree of autonomy and within a team environment with flexibility and adaptability in a challenging yet rewarding working environment.

Role Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Set priorities, establish work programs, monitor workflows and prepare program budgets for strategic projects. 
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, implementation and administration of the project throughout its project cycle.
  • Provide direction and support to other project team members, including staff and volunteers.
  • Application of evidence-based decision making in program design. 

Community Development and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Take the lead on priority projects ensuring adherence to grant deliverables, acquittals and financial reporting.
  • Facilitate focus group discussions to collect data and deliver reporting throughout the life of strategic projects. 
  • Invest in growing strategic partnerships and alliances with relevant stakeholders for the successful delivery of strategic projects. 
  • Deliver online and face to face delivery modes and workshops to meet the cultural resource needs of employers and stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to the development of an annual business plan aligned with our strategic plan that includes the implementation of continuous service improvement, ongoing feedback processes and stakeholder engagement.
  • Write high-quality content for internal and external communications including newsletters, social media, grant applications and reports. 

Finance and Reporting

  • Deliver Cultural Diversity Action Plans for employers to enhance their situational awareness and cultural strategy capabilities and competencies. 
  • Provide high-quality and informative monthly reports to the CEO including relevant information required by funding bodies as/and when required.
  • Identify and submit grant opportunities that align with MCOTs strategic priorities, including supporting applications on behalf MCOT members.
  • Support the CEO in monitoring financial reports to track progress of priority projects including effective management of Hub finances.
  • Undertake other business development, marketing, administrative and community engagement duties, as/when required.
