As the Team Leader of the Enteric Virus Group, you will have the opportunity to lead an internationally recognised team known for its groundbreaking research in enteric viruses. Our group boasts a rich history of excellence, from the discovery of rotavirus as the major cause of childhood gastroenteritis over 50 years ago, to current explorations of unusual and emerging enteric viruses and their impact on human health.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Enteric Virus Group, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.
  • Oversee the Australian Rotavirus Surveillance Program and serve as the WHO Collaborating Centre for Child Health (Rotavirus Research), the WHO Rotavirus Regional Reference Laboratory for the Western Pacific Region, and the Australian National Rotavirus Reference Laboratory.
  • Support the clinical trials and commercial development of the RV3-BB rotavirus vaccine.
  • Engage in the Global Paediatric Diarrhea Surveillance Program in collaboration with WHO and partners.
  • Collaborate with international NGOs, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to further global health initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide team members, promoting professional development and research excellence.

What we need from you:

  • Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification with 7 years postdoctoral experience (relative to opportunity)
  • Mid/senior post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in virology, immunology, or related fields
  • Excellence in virology, particularly as it relates to enteric viruses
  • Management experience of a highly efficient Enteric Virus Laboratory
  • Proven track record in leading research projects and teams
  • Advanced communication, presentations and writing skills
  • Ability to collaborate with international partners and stakeholders
  • Passion for advancing public health through innovative research
