  • Based in the John Cade Unit 2, Eating Disorders at The Royal Melbourne Hospital

The Eating Disorder Service based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital consists of a caring, cohesive and dynamic team that provides expert multidisciplinary care to consumers and their families/carers

The Carer Lived Experience team at IWAMHS aims to support the recognition, inclusion, participation, and needs of carers, families, and supporters of the service

As the Carer Peer Support Worker you will use your own experience caring for a family member/friend with an eating disorder, to benefit and support the family and carers of our consumers

Your new role

  • Support family and carers at an individual level through carer peer support, advocacy, and carer groups
  • Provide advice on a broader systemic level in ensuring the carer lived experience perspective is included at all levels of service development, delivery, and training
  • Draw on existing carer lived experience knowledge to further progress the carer peer support role on the Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit
  • Network and collaborate with managers, team leaders, lived experience and clinical staff

About you:

  • Significant personal lived experience of caring for someone with an eating disorder who has accessed adult public mental health services.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Self-motivated, passionate, and well-organised with a passion for provision of high quality, recovery focused services
  • Confident to share your wisdom, knowledge, and experience to contribute to the Carer Lived Experience team and promote the carer lived experience perspective across the service
