Your new team:

Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.

Custodial FYMHS is in an exciting period of significant growth as a result of the Royal Commission and evolution of Victorian Mental Health Services. Our specialist multidisciplinary team provides enhanced services to young people in custody, with a focus on recovery-oriented care.

Your new role:

The Nurse Practitioner is a key leadership position within Custodial FYMHS and broader OSP. The role will suit a candidate with experience in Mental Health and/or AOD service delivery, especially amongst the younger population, or someone looking to build upon their existing clinical experience. In this role you will:

  • Develop and implement the model of care to reduce the current service gaps
  • Develop the integration of research, education, clinical practice, leadership and supervision across the service and wider OSP
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to provide training and primary and secondary consultation of young people with complex physical health needs
  • Provision of training and secondary consultation to develop capabilities of YJP, primary health and FYMHS staff working with young people and their families/carers from Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA backgrounds

About you:

  • Qualified and endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the principles and practice of working with mental health patients with addiction/AOD issues
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs that upskill health workers
  • Experience in reviewing and developing policies, evaluating risk and quality improvement, clinical research, and knowledge translation
