About Men and Family Centre

The Men and Family Centre (MFC) is a community-based not-for-profit organisation providing group programs, individual support and primary prevention activities for people who use violence and those affected by violence. MFC encourages the development of effective life skills and abilities that enhance safety, freedom from abuse, self-responsibility and well-being. It operates from two locations – Lismore and Tweed.

Work Performed

The position holder is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management, planning and evaluation of programs and services, direction of staff and development of an operational plan. The position holder supports a multi disciplinary team, and is required to work collaboratively with other team members in order to deliver the Operational Plan. This includes:

  • The provision of specialist knowledge and advice pertaining to family and domestic violence
  • The engagement of men, women and children in programs
  • Regular supervision and performance appraisal of staff and volunteers of the organisation

In undertaking the above functions, the position holder will report to the Board, direct the staff of the Centre, and liaise and communicate with communities of interest, service providers and key stakeholders.

The position holder participates in regular supervision meetings with the Chairperson of the Board or their delegate.

The position holder has a key role in the day-to-day management of the organisation, including planning, financial and human resources management. This essential in supporting the Men and Family Centre culture of collegial respect and transparent management.

The position holder solves day-to-day issues and problems relating to the organisation and is responsible for implementing the Operational Plan.

The position holder authorises and/or incurs expenditure within approved budgets, unless specific out-of-budget expenditure is authorised by the Management Committee.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Management

  • Provide direction in the provision and development of programs and services to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Men and Family Centre.
  • Provide informed advice to the Board on issues of strategic direction and compliance, policy and procedural issues, and statutory and contractual compliance and arrangements relating to Centre work.
  • Develop and maintain relevant Centre policies and procedures.
  • Establish and refine effective business processes.
  • Liaise with the organisation's auditors and insurance brokers as required.
  • Provide a bi-monthly written report to the Board.
  • Attend and participate in bi-monthly meetings of the Board.

Financial Management

  • Ensure sound financial management in accordance with best industry practice and the particular requirements of funding bodies.
  • Develop an annual budget, in partnership with the Treasurer, Bookkeeper and senior staff which is submitted to the Board in April each year for adoption and approval.
  • Delegate budget and financial responsibility to senior staff as appropriate for the coordination of related programs and services.
  • Monitor expenditure to ensure compliance with the Operational Plan and budget parameters.
  • Identify, develop and submit funding applications that enhance the Centre's programs and services, consistent with the goals of the Strategic Plan.

Human Resource Management

  • Ensure the effective management of the organisation’s human resources including recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, management supervision, and training and development.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision is facilitated for all team members .
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including occupational health and safety and equal employment opportunity.

Networking and Partnerships

  • Delegate representative role/s to identified staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain and represent the M&FC in print, radio and TV media and/or oversee such publicity as developed by Centre staff and/or volunteers.
  • Ensure that the organisation maintains a record of membership consistent with statutory requirements.

General

  • Perform other duties and activities to assist the Men & Family Centre in achieving its funding and strategic intent/goals as requested by the Board.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • At least 5 years’ experience in management of Men’s Behaviour Change Programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of small to medium sized non-government or similar organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strengths-based community work.
  • Demonstrated ability in applying for funding to government and non-government organisations
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated ability in operational and financial planning.
  • Demonstrated background, experience and knowledge of family and domestic violence, particularly the engagement of men in behavioural change programs including the current NSW Minimum Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change Programs
  • Demonstrated experience in effective supervision of staff.
  • Experience reporting to and working with a board;
  • Experience working with men, women and children who have experienced violence and understanding of challenges of working with each group.
  • At least two year’s experience in counselling with appropriate clinical supervision.
  • A current driver’s licence.

Men and Family Centre (M&FC) is a community-based incorporated not-for-profit organisation working across the lands of the Bundjalung Nation (Northern Rivers). Our offices are based in Lismore and Tweed Heads NSW.

Our purpose is to contribute to the development of a society where all relationships are built on mutual respect, safety and equality.

We aim to create safer families and communities through our work:

  • With people who use violence, abuse, coercion and control, and
  • With people affected by other’s violence, abuse, coercion and control, and
  • With the communities and systems that this violence happens within.

In particular, we work with people who use forms of violence, and those affected by forms of violence, in group programs and through individual support.

We also seek address the underlying causes of violence at a community level through a range of primary prevention activities.

ABOUT THE CENTRE MANAGER

Working within the provisions of the M&FC Constitution and under the strategic guidance of the M&FC Board, the Centre Manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management, planning and evaluation of programs and services, direction of staff and development of an operational plan. The Centre Manager supports a multi disciplinary team, and is required to work collaboratively with other team members in order to deliver the Operational Plan. This includes:

  • The provision of specialist knowledge and advice pertaining to family and domestic violence
  • The engagement of men, women and children in programs
  • Regular supervision and performance appraisal of staff and volunteers of the organisation
  • This position is a 3- year contract, with the potential for extension, at the discretion of the Board, paid at SCHADS Award Level 7 plus ten per cent. The position is being offered as a full-time position, but flexible arrangements (including job-share) can be negotiated.
