About the role

This pivotal and impactful position provides specialised person-centred advocacy, education and information to aboriginal women, children and families seeking additional support due to Family Domestic Violence (FDV). The role works to identify risks providing tailored support, education and resources to empower decision making.

About you

You’ll have in-depth understanding and experience of the impacts of FDV and the ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments. With an empowering approach you’ll have the ability to foster relationships, build trust and confidence in those you advocate for, with strong sector networks that support effective access to available resources. Demonstrated resilience is key in an environment where no two days are the same and quick decision making is often required. Your key experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualification in human services (social work, psychology, counselling) or relevant field is desirable
  • In depth experience in supporting aboriginal women, children and families who are experiencing Family Domestic Violence
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments and forming positive working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain resilience and wellbeing working in challenging and emotive environments
  • Skills in group facilitation, advocacy, communication and relationship management
  • Knowledge of Government, community and sector agencies, groups and resources
  • Drivers Licence
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • National Police Clearance (issued within the last six months)
