Cancer Council Australia is a leading cancer charity in Australia and the only charity that works across every area of cancer, from research to prevention and support. The organisation works with its eight state members and territory cancer organisations to undertake and fund cancer research, prevent and control cancer, and provide information and support for people affected by cancer. All these efforts contribute to the organisation’s vision of a cancer free future.

The position

Reporting to the Board of Cancer Council Australia, you will be the principal point of contact and influence with the Federal Government across the federation. As the representative of Cancer Council across its various constituencies, you will contribute to the development of the Cancer Council federation strategy and implement those elements of the strategy for which CCA is responsible. Your role will be crucial in strengthening and maintaining positive relations with member Cancer Councils, and so contributing to the health of the federation.

About you

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:

• Understands the nature of member-based organisations, with experience in working within a complex environment such as a federation, and a proven track record in consensus building and management of uncertainty/ambiguity;
• A visionary leader capable of developing strategies and leading a team towards achievement;
• Results-oriented with recognition of people being the centre of success and an enabler of the work of others;
• Current or former public health professional or clinician with a strong knowledge of and commitment to cancer control, and has senior executive experience is desirable but not essential;
• Strong communication and influencing skills capable of serving as the voice of cancer control, including experience in media and broader health communications;
• Knowledgeable about cancer policy and advocacy, as well as equitable and consumer-focused health care delivery is desirable; and
• Must be a non-smoker.
