Your new role

This position will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion strategies in line with Merri Health's Community Health - Health Promotion plan.

Reporting to the Team Leader – Community Health Promotion, this position will work collaboratively with the broader Community Wellbeing team, other Merri Health teams, community members and external stakeholders to deliver evidence-based health promotion initiatives.

The role will require time to be spent working with community at community venues, whilst working in a hybrid working environment.

This position is a senior role with project management and supervision responsibilities. It is anticipated that approximately 30-40% of the role will be allocated to supervision responsibilities, and the other 60-70% allocated to project management responsibilities.

The role will be responsible for providing direct supervision to staff delivering initiatives under the Community Health – Health Promotion plan.

You will be responsible for

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation and evaluation of projects within the organisational Community Health – Health Promotion plans, ensuring delivery of targets are met.
  • Support/assist the team leader with planning related to Community Health – Health Promotion plans.
  • Facilitate training and upskilling across the team around health promotion frameworks.
  • Coordinate health promotion volunteers and student placements.
  • Day to day project management, including coordinating project team meetings, monitoring and recording of expenditure

People Management

  • Supervise two staff members delivering health promotion initiatives
  • People management through the employment life cycle, including recruitment, orientation, performance management, development, leave, and separations.
  • Be responsible for team outcomes, ensuring targets and funding requirements are met, and good external relationships are maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding guidelines, service standards and contractual obligations.
  • Build a culture of ambition and success across the team through motivating and developing employees by promoting continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the performance objectives of the team are communicated, understood and cascaded to all employees through effective development of individual KPIs and work plans.

What you will need to succeed

  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion / community development / public health or related field
  • At least 5 years experience leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion / community development projects
  • Well developed organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • High level of interpersonal skills, e.g negotiation, problem solving, confidence to have constructive and difficult conversations
  • The ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and create/maintain effective partnerships
  • Experience in working closely diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people from migrant backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ communities, marginalised and disadvantaged communities and an understanding of intersectionality
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current health promotion, community development and primary prevention approaches, particularly in the area of active living and mental health and wellbeing
