Job Description

BDVS is the specialist domestic violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. BDVS is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. BDVS has a focus on achieving safety and stability for the individuals and families that we support.

Working from contemporary evidence based best practice models, BDVS provides an array of services including crisis and case management, outreach, groups, safety planning, court support, information and referral, programs for men who perpetrate DFV, and psycho-social education on the dynamics of domestic and family violence. 

As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Senior Practitioner, you will work as part of the BDVS team to support people affected by domestic and family violence to live free from abuse and promote change within community and systems to achieve safety, equality, and respect.

This is a permanent full-time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 4/5 of the SCHADS Award dependent upon experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support victims of domestic and family violence using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Mentor and support Specialist DFV Advocates.
  • Manage and allocate caseloads, supervise case management, and develop support plans.
  • Provide emotional support and specialist psychoeducation on the dynamics and risks of domestic and family violence.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Advocate for and coordinate case management, focusing on maintaining safety for victims and survivors.
  • Work within an integrated response framework, ensuring smooth referrals and access to services.
  • Provide systemic advocacy to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability.
  • Support women attending Holland Park and Richlands Courts.
  • Maintain high-quality case notes and support plans.
  • Foster participant independence and access to community resources.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with government and non-government services.
  • Adhere to cultural sensitivity principles and connect participants to culturally specific programs.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent data and records management.
  • Commit to child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles.

Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience in crisis support, risk assessment, and safety planning.
  • Knowledge of domestic and family violence theories and practices, including trauma-informed approaches.
  • Ability to work with government and non-government agencies in a case coordination model.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Culturally sensitive practice with diverse populations.
  • Commitment to child and vulnerable adult safeguarding.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including case management and data collection.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and workplace health and safety principles.
