About the role

We are seeking a self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioner for a permanent, part-time (24 hours/week) opportunity in the Townsville area. You will deliver person-centred, recovery-oriented care to support young people develop social and community connections, build daily living skills, live independently and achieve recovery goals. You must be able to work a 24/7 rotating roster including sleepover shifts, night shifts and weekends.

About the service

The Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) is a strength-based, recovery orientated residential program. We support young people aged between 16-21 years who are recovering from mental ill health, with up to 12 months residential-based support.

In a safe, home-like environment, the service provides clients with individual and group-based supports promoting resilience, interpersonal skills, enhanced social connections, life skills, access to the community and a greater sense of being able to make sound decisions. Young people benefit from sharing their experiences and recovery journeys whilst growing their confidence and skills to live independently in the community. 

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support young people to re-engage with family and friends, create community connections, develop life skills, and enjoy a positive future through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals. 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Ability to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases (or able to obtain vaccinations) against Covid-19, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
