About the role

headspace in partnership with Mind aims to promote and facilitate improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25 years residing in the Eastern suburbs. Services in this space are delivered across four core streams - primary health care, mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) and social/vocational to improve access for young people to mental health programs.

We are seeking a highly motivated, empathetic Lead Student and Intake Practitioner for a permanent, part time (22.8 hours per week) opportunity to work in the Greensborough area. You will be responsible for managing, coordinating, supervising and training students during their placements. In this role, you will undertake intake and assessments, conduct meet and greet sessions with clients, facilitate single session thinking, provide brief interventions and any other client work. The Lead Student and Intake Practitioner will liaise with Universities, learning institutions, supervisors and managers. 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and supervision for all students to increase their skill set across the different practices within headspace.
  • Complete all required documentation to coordinate completion of the student placements in consultation with headspace national and tertiary education partners.
  • Work with clients to enable them to develop independent living skills and a meaningful life by supporting them through a strength-focused, staged approach to recovery using agreed practice techniques and approaches.
  • Support clients with actioning their recovery plan in a range of areas understanding and managing client’s own mental health.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Health Science, Nursing or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Ability to obtain registration with AHPRA, AASW or equivalent accreditation.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, AOD, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, coach and supervise students to achieve best quality service outcomes.
  • Ability to deliver person-centred support active support.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
