About the role

The Earn and Learn Internship program is part of the Victoria’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Workforce Strategy 2021-24. It aims to build a diverse, robust community mental health and wellbeing workforce by providing Certificate IV in Mental Health and Diploma of Mental Health students with on the job training and learning, streamline a transition into the workforce and create future employment opportunities.

We are seeking an empathic, self-motivated Mental Health & Wellbeing Intern for a 6-month fixed term, full time internship opportunity at the Housing with Support service.

Key responsibilities

  • Support clients to get the support, care and treatment that is important to them through a stages approach to recovery.
  • Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate group work programs that will assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community.
  • Provide support to clients’ families and carers as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications are not required but evidence of enrolment and commitment to completing the Certificate IV in Mental Health or Diploma of Mental Health is required.
  • Some experience in working with people with mental health and alcohol and other drug issues, complex needs and with their families and carers is desirable.
  • Ability to provide information and mentoring to build capacity, establish social relationships, create community networks and access to relevant services.
  • Understanding of facilitating group activities is desirable.
  • Understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams, and key stakeholders.
