  • Salary: $94,097.96 Full Time Salary Package (Non-PBI Equivalent) + Super - incudes
  • Base Pay: $85,126.08
  • Up to $6,385.95 in tax-savings via our offered charity salary packaging.
  • $2,585.93 allowances and cash benefits
  • + $9,789.50 Super (11.5%)

Minus18 is Australia’s charity improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth. We support LGBTQIA+ young people through events and digital platforms, and provide fee for service LGBTQIA+ inclusion training to schools, businesses and community organisations. Since 2011 over 100,000 young people have engaged in these services across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, and millions more via digital platforms.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The LGBTQIA+ Education Presenters at Minus18 drive inclusion within the broader community, delivering LGBTQIA+ education workshops and training that are a mix of facilitation, presentation and improvisation. In this role, you’ll be delivering sessions to a variety of audiences, including students, teachers, youth groups, community organisations and corporate environments, making LGBTQIA+ inclusion accessible to everyone in a positive, nonjudgmental space. Some of our recent audiences have included Bonds, Levis, Canva & the National Theatre Melbourne.

Our Workshops have been described as “participating in your favourite podcast”, so even though they are pre-scripted, you’ll think on your feet, react to the audience’s participation and navigate questions with patience and positivity. We’ll also coach you to write and share your personal narrative on LGBTQIA+ identity with openness and vulnerability, inspiring others to connect with the real-world application of the Content.

These sessions are 30 minutes to 3 hours long, delivered digitally via Zoom, and also in-person. They include content such as:

  • Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Inclusion
  • Supporting Trans & Gender Diverse People
  • LGBTQIA+ Alyship
  • Campaign Keynote Delivery

The ideal candidate for this role is a vibrant and engaging public speaker with confidence performing to an audience (digitally or in person). A strong experience and understanding of LGBTQIA+ identity will support this role, however this is an area you will receive training in. This role works as part of the Education Team. When not presenting, you will support the refinement of LGBTQIA+ content, collect evaluation information and participate in team planning and development to help us ensure Minus18 Workshops and Training sessions continue to be some of the most highly regarded available.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivery & Presentation

  • Set up and present packaged LGBTQIA+ workshops and keynotes to a wide variety of audiences including: Secondary schools (teachers and students), Youth groups, Community organisations & Workplaces
  • Confidently share your own personal experiences relating to LGBTQIA+ identity.
  • Answer audience questions related to LGBTQIA+ identity, inclusion and allyship.
  • Travel to schools and workplaces to deliver sessions. This includes regular local travel, and occasional interstate travel.
  • With the Education Team, plan and host Minus18-led ticketed community sessions.
  • Support the creation of promotional content, including social media posts and promotional material.
  • Support the collection of evaluation data from workshop participants, including data entry of participant feedback when needed.

Teamwork & Development

  • Work within the Education team to improve offerings, refine education content and develop other LGBTQIA+ inclusion materials.
  • Contribute to the positive and vibrant culture of Minus18 as a youth driven organisation.
  • Support Minus18 staff and volunteers in other areas, including events, as directed by the General Manager.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong experience in public speaking and confidence commanding a room of people is required for this role.
  • Lived experience in LGBTQIA+ identity, and ability to share these experiences with others.
  • Clear passion for educating others with the ability to connect and empathise with a variety of audiences and people.
  • Highly organised, self driven with a high level of attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated passion for Minus18's mission to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

A successful Police Background Check and Working With Children Check (WWCC) are required for this role. These can be obtained once an offer of employment is made, and before role commencement.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status.

A Victorian drivers license with regular access to a car.
