Your Opportunity

The Intensive Family Support service is an early intervention and prevention intensive family support service for families with children aged 0-18 who are at risk of entry into Child Safety Services under the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women. Its primary purpose is to improve the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children. Mission Australia provides this service in three Queensland locations - Inala/Goodna, Caboolture/Deception Bay and Ipswich.

In this role, you will work closely with families to address complex challenges and support meaningful, long-term change. Your expertise will be essential in strengthening family relationships and reducing the need for involvement with child protection services.
As part of a dedicated team, you will apply your specialist knowledge to promote best practices in the Domestic and Family Violence (D&FV) sector, engage directly with families, and provide vital support to practitioners. Your contributions will be critical in preventing families from requiring statutory child protection interventions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice, leadership, and training in Domestic and Family Violence (D&FV) practices to the IFS team.
  • Enable best practices in case management, ensuring a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centred approach.
  • Actively engage with families, including home visits, to develop and implement actionable case plans for long-term positive outcomes.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning using the Common Risk Assessment and Risk Management Framework to determine risks and addressing complex family dynamics.
  • Create culturally sensitive interventions, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • Develop quality relationships with a range of key stakeholders and partners including community organisations and other health professionals to allow for the effective provision of support and information to clients.
  • Participate in reflective practices to continuously improve service responses to D&FV.

Requirements for Success

With a substantial background in the child protection, child, youth & family sectors with specialist knowledge of domestic and family violence, you will be confident in your case management and trauma informed assessment processes. Other requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related field are highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act and Child Protection Act.
  • Proven ability to deliver trauma-informed, culturally appropriate services to diverse families, including survivors and perpetrators of D&FV.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring and supporting multidisciplinary teams in complex environments.
  • Excellent risk assessment and crisis management capabilities, using evidence-based tools and frameworks.
  • Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Competency in case management systems, reporting, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Person centred approach with ability to meet people where they are at.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
