Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, world-renowned ethologist, humanitarian, conservationist, and UN Messenger of Peace founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977. Today, there are JGI chapters in 28 countries, plus field offices and Roots & Shoots groups spread across more than 65 nations and five continents. The Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA) is one of the global offices and was founded in 2007.

Over the past decade, JGIA has undergone remarkable growth. It has evolved from a single staff member and an annual revenue of about $200,000, primarily reliant on Dr Goodall’s tours, to a dynamic organisation with a skilled staff team, a revenue base approaching $1 million, a Roots & Shoots presence in every state and territory, new environmental education programs, and greater contributions to community-centred conservation programs in Africa.

JGIA seeks a visionary leader to build upon the organisation’s foundations ensuring it is well-positioned to meet the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.

Position

You will be ultimately responsible for ensuring JGIA meets all statutory requirements, compliance obligations, and duties of care.

It is important to develop a strong working relationship with the Board, reporting regularly on strategic plan progress, key risks, budget, whilst providing them with the necessary support to advance JGIA’s mission.

Developing and executing successful fundraising strategies is vital to ensure the long-term viability of the organisation. Leading efforts to diversify the funding base and attracting resources for high impact, mission aligned opportunities will be key to the success of the new CEO.

Profile

As an empowering leader with strong people skills, you will lead and inspire staff and volunteers by providing a clear vision whilst developing the strategy that enables JGIA to achieve its mission.

You will ideally have experience in fundraising or business development. Driving business growth from either a commercial or not-for-profit background. You must clearly demonstrate success in attracting investment and funding.

Adaptability and flexibility within the role, is often necessary. JGIA is a small to medium-sized charity. You must be willing to roll up your sleeves when necessary.
