ABOUT US

The Multicultural Leadership Initiative (MLI) is on a mission to grow and transform the climate movement to become more racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse. We uplift multicultural community groups and organisations who want to initiate or scale up their climate action efforts. We also support established climate organisations wanting to improve their cross-cultural competencies and build a movement that represents all of us who are concerned about climate change.

We were founded in 2022 in Australia and have been rapidly scaling up since.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Program Manager - Community Education will lead the development and delivery of training that will equip multicultural and climate sector workers and volunteers with the necessary cross-cultural skills and aptitude to engage and mobilise racially, culturally and linguistically diverse people on climate. The position will be required to work out of usual office hours on a regular basis and will require national and international travel. Out of hours work will be compensated according to the employment laws relevant to the location of the employee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Curriculum Development & Management:
    • Co-design cross-cultural learning programs that will equip staff and volunteers of multicultural and climate organisations with knowledge, skills and abilities to design and run campaigns, projects and initiatives that are resonant with multicultural communities.
  • Training and Facilitation Delivery:
    • Conduct and lead workshops and structured learning initiatives, which involve training other facilitators, utilising impactful and innovative methods embedding sound adult education principles.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Outreach and build relationships with diverse communities, including CALD (Culturally and Linguistically
      Diverse) and White audiences across multicultural and climate organisations, to encourage their involvement in training programs.
  • Event Planning & Coordination:
    • Planning and coordinating logistics for in-person and virtual trainings and workshops.
  • Evaluation and Assessment:
    • Review and extract lessons to improve MLI’s learning programs as well as support other multicultural and climate organisations in reviewing their learning and development programs in support of strengthening cross-cultural skills and aptitude.
  • Strategy Development:
    • Proactively contribute to the strengthen strategies that enable CALD community members to fully participant in shaping a climate safe future.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tertiary degree in social science, adult education or a related field. Alternatively, 3+ years sector experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and running training that is transformative for participants.
  • In-depth knowledge cross-cultural organising, campaigning or advocacy.
  • Strong understanding of climate change issues or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Political acumen and awareness of political sensitivities across the political spectrum.
  • Ethical conduct and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion for multicultural understanding, diversity, and inclusion.
