We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will play a vital part in the daily operations of both the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Laboratory and the Metabolic Laboratory within our Biochemical Genetics Division.

Your responsibilities include:

As a Laboratory Technician, your contributions will include:

  • Sample Management: Expertly handle sample receipt, processing, and analysis, ensuring the utmost precision and accuracy in every step.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply your technical proficiency to support laboratory processes, method development, and ongoing improvements.
  • Quality Assurance: Contribute to the organisation of quality management activities, including internal quality control and external quality assurance, to maintain the highest standards of testing.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with a dedicated team of professionals, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and embrace opportunities for professional growth.

What we need from you:

  • Diploma in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in high volume dried blood spot processing in an ISO15189 NATA accredited laboratory
  • Demonstrated experience in running, maintaining and troubleshooting automated newborn screening equipment including the Revvity Panthera and GSSP.
  • Demonstrated experience in sample preparation, running and maintaining mass spectrometry equipment
  • Demonstrated experience in manual and automated processing of PCR assays
  • Understanding of specimen reception and patient information
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
  • Effective organisational and time-management skills
  • A passion for advancing healthcare through biochemical genetic testing
